Ukraine's Military Innovations: Successes and Setbacks at the Front
Ukraine's first BMPT-62 Terminator armored fighting vehicle, built on the hull of a 41-ton, ex-Russian T-62, is now in front-line use with the 128th Mountain Brigade. The Terminator's main role is escorting tanks and IFVs, lending rapid firepower and thick armor to a combined-arms team. The Ukrainian version has added blocks of Kontakt-1 reactive armor to the hull and turret, and its turret has just a single 30-millimeter autocannon, borrowed from a captured Russian BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. The 128th's BMPT-62 could play an important role supporting the brigade's T-72 tanks and BMP fighting vehicles in the southern front.
