Met Gala Turns Red Carpet into a Living Art Gallery
At this year’s Met Gala, the Costume Art exhibit and Fashion is Art dress code had guests turning the red carpet into a gallery: Claire Foy wore an Erdem corset gown inspired by John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Madame X; Kendall Jenner’s Gap Studio by Zac Posen gown featured a winged-train referencing The Winged Victory of Samothrace; Gracie Abrams and Hunter Schafer wore Klimt-inspired gowns; Angela Bassett reimagined Laura Wheeler Waring’s Girl in a Pink Dress; Madonna’s Saint Laurent ensemble included a ship-shaped headpiece in reference to Leonora Carrington; Rachel Zegler cited Paul Delaroche’s The Execution of Lady Jane Grey; Tessa Thompson wore Yves Klein blue; Hunter Schafer’s Klimt-inspired look referenced Mäda Primavesi; and Ben Platt’s Seurat-inspired embroidery nods to A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte among others.
