Market Basket taps longtime exec as president after court backs firing of former CEO
Market Basket named Chuck Casassa as its new president after a Delaware chancery court upheld the board’s firing of former CEO Arthur T. Demoulas; interim CEO Don Mulligan is retiring and the board did not announce a successor. Casassa, who started as a bagger in 1976 and rose to director of operations last year, is lauded for his store leadership. The court ruling ends Demoulas’s long-running family feud with the board, which argued he resisted oversight and could repeat a 2014 boycott. Market Basket remains a top regional grocer and will continue to work with Demoulas as a shareholder.
