Lower liver enzymes linked to higher risk of early-onset colorectal cancer

A non-peer-reviewed Epic Research analysis of about 11,000 adults aged 18–44 found that lower AST (<14 U/L) and ALT (<14 U/L) levels were associated with a higher likelihood of early-onset colorectal cancer (65% and 68% higher, respectively), while higher AST/ALT were linked to a lower risk. The study is observational, does not establish causation or change screening guidelines (average-risk screening starts at 45), and researchers stress this is exploratory and warrants further investigation. No other routine labs showed an association.

"Revolutionary Weapon: Combating Antibiotic Resistance and Malaria Simultaneously"

Researchers at Florida International University have discovered a natural arsenic-containing antibiotic called arsinothricin (AST) that can combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria and also prevent the transmission of malaria. AST has shown effectiveness against notorious bacteria such as E. coli and Mycobacteria, as well as the malaria-causing parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Unlike current antimalarial drugs, AST can prevent the parasite from infecting mosquitoes, breaking the malaria life cycle. The researchers have obtained a U.S. patent for AST and are continuing their research to develop it into a more effective antimalarial drug.
