Suspects Arrested for Copper Theft That Triggered Deadly Plaka Gas Blast
Three men were arrested on October 29, 2026, for allegedly cutting gas pipes to steal copper, an act that caused a leak leading to the September 25 explosion in Athens' Plaka district that killed six people. Investigators confirmed the suspects entered the building at 2:00 a.m., damaging the active supply line, which allowed gas to accumulate until a spark from a light switch ignited it at 7:30 a.m.
