Optimizing Performance of Atomically Thin Transistors with New Method
Researchers have developed a new method of wafer-scale production of transistors based on atomically thin materials, resulting in more consistent and better-performing transistors than those made with traditional manufacturing approaches. The method involves forming all the individual parts of the circuitry separately and bringing them together under gentle conditions, limiting the possibility of damage to the atomically thin semiconducting material. The researchers were able to build functional circuitry across the entirety of a 2-inch wafer, including half-adder units, an essential component of computational hardware.
