Former Air Canada captain allegedly flew 900+ flights without proper license
A former Air Canada captain is accused of flying more than 900 domestic and international flights on Boeing 767/777/787 without the required airline transport pilot license, after allegedly forging credentials during his promotion in 2009. The police-led Project Icarus investigation suggests a deliberate effort to bypass safety systems; the pilot was arrested June 1 and faces seven counts including fraud and uttering forged documents. Air Canada says safety was not compromised and that an ATPL is required to command large aircraft; the pilot retired in 2025, and officials say no others are involved as the case proceeds with regulatory and criminal investigations.
