Australia Doubles Post-Service Reserve Commitment to 10 Years
Australia has extended the mandatory post-service reserve commitment for military personnel from five to 10 years, effective October 1, 2026. This change, driven by a 2024 strategic review, aims to double the pool of callable personnel to approximately 20,000 within five years. While the move strengthens defense readiness, experts note that many reservists lack current training, raising questions about the practical utility of the expanded contingent workforce.
