Alleged bias toward autonomous shuttles sparks Beltline oversight requests

A Midtown complaint alleges the Atlanta Beltline study biased toward autonomous shuttles after Beep introduced TYLin as “partners,” with TYLin’s report recommending autonomous buses as the backbone. Mayor Dickens cited this unfinished study to pause Eastside light-rail, while other Beltline segments remain unresolved; Beep’s ATL Spoke pilot is moving forward with public funding. Beltline officials deny wrongdoing, saying the work was exploratory, but city council members are calling for investigation and potential Inspector General review.

"Altamonte Springs Introduces Autonomous Shuttles for Efficient Transportation"

Altamonte Springs in Central Florida is launching a pilot program of fare-free autonomous buses called CraneRIDES. Initially, the buses will operate at speeds of up to 15 mph on a 1.5-mile route, connecting popular spots in the city. By 2025, the fleet will expand to six driverless buses traveling at speeds of up to 30 mph, connecting passengers to more locations. The shuttle service is being provided by Beep and will cost around $2.4 million for the first three years, with funding from a Florida Department of Transportation grant. Altamonte Springs aims to create a model for other communities to develop their own autonomous shuttle systems.
