Controllers Suspended After Near Mid-Air Collision Between Air India and Nepal Airlines
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has suspended two air traffic controllers for "carelessness" after an Air India plane and a Nepal Airlines aircraft narrowly avoided a midair collision while waiting to land at Kathmandu's international airport. The aviation body has formed a committee to investigate the incident and has written to the Indian civil aviation regulatory body to investigate the possible fault of Air India's pilot. Nepal's air transport sector has been plagued by accidents due to poor maintenance, insufficient training, and lax standards.
