Cellphone data pinpoints fatal fall for hiker in Olympic National Park
Neil Gehring, a 26-year-old hiker from Massachusetts, was found dead on the northwest slope of Mount Appleton in Olympic National Park on September 13. His body was located after search teams analyzed new cellphone location data, ending a two-week search that began after he failed to return from an overnight trek on August 31. The Clallam County Coroner confirmed the cause of death as extensive blunt trauma to the head, torso, and limbs. While the National Park Service declined to provide further details, the investigation remains active as authorities seek information from the public.
