Soulful Voice Behind Good Times Theme, Jim Gilstrap, Dies at 79
Jim Gilstrap, a cornerstone soul vocalist who sang the opening lines of the Good Times TV theme and a longtime member of Stevie Wonder’s Wonderlove, has died at 79. A prolific background singer in the 1970s, he contributed to Wonder’s landmark albums Talking Book and Innervisions, scored a Top 10 R&B hit with Swing Your Daddy in 1975, and later lent his voice to a range of artists including Quincy Jones, George Duke, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and Bill Withers.
