Brazil’s October 4 Vote: Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro Clash Amid Scandal and Geopolitical Stakes
Brazilian voters face a critical choice on October 4 between incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. The race is a statistical dead heat, with polls showing both candidates facing high rejection rates. The election is overshadowed by the Banco Master financial scandal, which implicates Flávio Bolsonaro, and by US President Donald Trump’s interference, including tariffs and sanctions. A runoff is likely on October 25, as neither candidate is expected to secure the 50% majority needed to win outright.
