Bulgarian Tourist Mauled by Bear on Romania’s Bear Road During Feeding Incident
Bulgarian Georgi Bizhev, 46, was driving through Romania’s popular Bear Road on May 27 when a bear and its cub lunged at his car as nearby tourists fed them. Bizhev was bitten on his left arm and underwent surgery; he says the bear acted by chance and that feeding bears was a mistake, though he doesn’t believe he did anything wrong. Feeding bears is prohibited by Romanian authorities and can carry fines. His recovery is expected to take about three to four months.
