
Bedford rail tragedy: driver dies as collision sparks probe
A collision between two East Midlands Railway services near Bedford killed the driver, Shaun Burton, and injured around 100 people. The incident prompted a major emergency response, with 11 very seriously injured, 32 others injured, and 57 with minor injuries; 28 remain in hospital, nine in a critical condition. Services to London St Pancras were suspended, and the Bedford–Luton line is closed for repairs and investigations through at least 28 June as the RAIB and British Transport Police probe the crash. Tributes have been paid to the driver and thoughts extended to those affected.
