Iowa Cancer Study: 76% Figure Applies Only to Five Cancers, Not All
Iowa officials highlighted a 76% figure from a new cancer study, claiming it explains most of the state's excess cancer cases. However, this statistic applies only to five specific cancer types. When all cancers are considered, behavioral and demographic factors explain only about 35% of the excess cases. The study excluded key environmental factors like pesticides and PFAS, which remain central to the debate over Iowa's high cancer rates.
