Fatal Grizzly Attack on Popular Trail Shakes Remote BC Community
Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, were killed in a suspected grizzly bear attack on the Snooka West Trail near Bella Coola, British Columbia. Their remains were recovered on Monday and Tuesday after they went missing during a short walk close to their home. Conservation officers are trapping bears to identify the culprit, noting that multiple animals may have been involved. The Nuxalk Nation has issued a recommended curfew and is offering free fruit tree gleaning to mitigate risks. This incident follows a similar attack on schoolchildren in the same region last November, highlighting ongoing concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the area.
