BioTAK Blood Score Could Tell Takotsubo Apart From Heart Attacks Before Catheterization
A study introduces BioTAK, a five-factor blood score (NT-proBNP, PAM, sLOX-1, LDL, and sex) to distinguish takotsubo syndrome (broken heart) from acute coronary syndrome before invasive testing. Built from 3,615 Swiss patients and validated in a separate group, BioTAK achieved high discrimination (AUC about 0.97 training, 0.93 validation) and strong rule-out performance, potentially reducing unnecessary catheterizations. However, two of the biomarkers aren’t yet routine in many hospitals, results depend on population, and real-world outcomes haven’t been tested yet.
