Norfolk Southern faces lawsuit from school district.
The Blackhawk School District in Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against Norfolk Southern, accusing the railroad company of releasing toxic chemicals into the air and onto the ground with no regard for the district, its students, or staff. The lawsuit demands that Norfolk Southern clean up the chemicals it dumped on the district's properties and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, court costs, and attorney fees. The district claims it was harmed in many ways, including health issues, medical issues, and property damage. The lawsuit alleges negligence in the operation of the railroad, the derailment, and subsequent vent and burn of vinyl chloride.
