Tigers Call Up Brett Callahan for MLB Debut as Cruz is Designated
The Detroit Tigers promoted Brett Callahan from Triple-A Toledo to make his MLB debut and designated Trei Cruz for assignment to clear a 40-man spot. Callahan, 24, has a strong minor-league track record (Double-A: .268/.374/.504, 133 wRC+, 29 steals) and could provide outfield depth as injuries to Carpenter, Greene, and Outman linger; he’ll remain rookie-eligible if he stays under 130 at-bats this season.
