Tillis Warns Trump’s Russia Diesel Deal Violates Law; Fitzpatrick Launches Discharge Petition
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) stated on NBC News that President Trump’s decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel may be illegal, arguing it violates the 2022 Senate ban on Russian oil imports. Tillis warned the move risks American lives by funding Russian mercenaries and Iran. Simultaneously, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) announced a discharge petition to force a vote on the 'Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act' to reverse the deal. Energy analysts from The Guardian argue the 300,000-ton shipment is too small to lower U.S. diesel prices, which have surged 70% since the Iran conflict began. Tillis also condemned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as a 'failed leader' for planning to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan.
