
Heat-tragedy on Grand Canyon trail claims 18-year-old hiker
An 18-year-old hiker died after experiencing heat-related symptoms on the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon National Park. He was located about 30 feet below the trail near Garden Creek after a distress call around 1:40 p.m. Rangers conducted a helicopter rescue, but he died at the scene. The hiker was attempting a day hike from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back. The incident is under investigation with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the identity is being withheld pending family notification.
