Salman Rushdie's Warning on the Threat to Free Expression

Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed on stage nine months ago, has warned that freedom of expression in the West is under threat. Rushdie, who was awarded the Freedom to Publish award at the British Book Awards, criticised the attack on libraries and books for children in schools, and the rewriting of older books to remove language deemed offensive. Rushdie also criticised the censorship of books and said that books should "come to us from their time and be of their time."
