Garland police shoot machete-wielding suspect after lengthy standoff
A man armed with a machete was shot and killed by Garland police after 15 to 25 minutes of negotiations when he advanced toward officers near Broadway Boulevard and Colonel Drive. A Taser deployed earlier had no effect, and no officers or bystanders were injured. The suspect died at a local hospital. The incident is under investigation by Garland Police, its Professional Standards Unit, and the Dallas County DA’s Public Integrity Unit, with officers placed on administrative leave as the scene is processed and Broadway Boulevard lanes remain closed.
