Hawaii researchers developing first field test kit for Brucellosis in feral pigs
Hawaii Pacific University researchers are creating the first field-testing kit to detect Brucellosis in Hawaii’s feral pigs—a zoonotic disease present in an estimated 10–25% of wild pigs that can cause flu-like symptoms in people and miscarriages in pregnant humans; the team aims to ship kits with protective gear to hunters by year’s end and, depending on funding, have rapid field diagnostics ready within about two years.
