Buñol's La Tomatina erupts in 165-tonne tomato chaos
Thousands gathered in Bunol for La Tomatina as trucks dumped 165 tonnes of tomatoes and revelers hurled fruit for about an hour; tarps shielded buildings and police dispersed small clusters at times. Over 20,000 attended, about 40% international tourists, with rising Indian visitors helped by a Bollywood film. The festival, dating to 1945 and once banned by Franco, remains a global spectacle with 15-euro tickets and protective gear, followed by communal showers and street cleaning.
