Foreign investors pull out $36 billion from Russian businesses.
Foreign investors who sold their businesses in Russia between March 2022 and March 2023 withdrew about $36 billion from the country, according to analysis of data from the Central Bank. The exodus of foreign companies from Russia has been attributed to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Central Bank has played down the impact of foreign company exits, stating that only 20% of the 200 sale deals completed in the period involved large asset sales exceeding $100 million.
