Hollister High varsity football season canceled after coach leave and player shortage
The San Benito High School District canceled the remainder of Hollister High School’s 2026 varsity football season on Sept. 21, citing an insufficient number of eligible student-athletes to safely field a team. The decision follows an ongoing district review of the program, the placement of head coach Thomas Sullivan on paid administrative leave, and a recent game forfeit. While junior varsity and freshman teams continue playing, the district has withheld specific details regarding the investigation to protect student privacy.
