Alberta Referendum: Delayed Polls Push Separation Vote Results Into Early Tuesday Morning
Alberta voters faced logistical delays on October 19, 2026, as over 100 polling stations opened late, extending voting hours to 10:00 PM local time. Consequently, results for the critical Question 10 on separation from Canada will not be released until the early hours of Tuesday, October 20. The referendum included nine additional questions on immigration and constitutional changes, with Question 10 prioritized for counting due to high public interest. While advance voting reached 1.3 million voters, the hand-counting process for 10 color-coded ballots per voter is expected to take up to 48 hours to complete fully.
