Defense lawyer for slain NYT exec’s in-laws cites victim’s alleged abuse history
Jonathan McKinsey, a transgender executive at The New York Times, was fatally shot on September 26 in Dublin, California. His 77-year-old parents-in-law, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, have been charged with murder. During a court appearance on October 1, defense attorney Curtis Briggs claimed McKinsey was 'extremely rageful' and had abused his wife and children, contradicting prosecutors' depiction of a premeditated ambush. The case stems from a bitter custody dispute and domestic violence allegations between McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang.
