Wine Linked to Lower Death Risk in Large UK Study
In data from more than 340,000 UK Biobank participants (2006–2022), wine at low to moderate levels was associated with lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, while beer and spirits were linked to higher death risk. High overall alcohol consumption raised all-cause mortality by 24%, and the type of beverage mattered for lower risk. The authors note that this is observational and may reflect healthier lifestyles among wine drinkers, so causality cannot be established; randomized trials are needed for confirmation.
