Heart Medications May Reduce Dementia Risk
A recent study published in the journal Alzheimer's & Dementia suggests that long-term use of certain cardiovascular drugs, such as antihypertensives, lipid-lowering medications, diuretics, and oral anticoagulants, may lower the risk of dementia. However, the use of antiplatelet medications was linked to an increased risk of dementia. The study, which analyzed data from over 88,000 dementia patients and 880,000 controls in Sweden, highlights the potential protective effects of cardiovascular drugs on brain health, though it cannot establish causation. Further research is needed to explore these associations and their implications for dementia treatment.
