Eve Reflects on Career: From Philly Roots to Boardroom Battles
Rapper and actor Eve, born Eve Jihan Jeffers in Philadelphia in 1978, has released a retrospective interview detailing her journey from a battle rapper to a Grammy-winning star. Her debut album, 'Let There Be Eve … Ruff Ryders’ First Lady,' debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 1999, followed by the platinum-selling 'Scorpion,' which won a Grammy for the single 'Let Me Blow Ya Mind.' Eve credits her resilience to her Philadelphia upbringing, describing the city as an underdog hub where residents are accustomed to hard work. She highlights the supportive environment of the Ruff Ryders label, which contrasted with the harassment she faced elsewhere in the industry. Despite professional success, Eve struggled with anxiety and depression during the peak of her career, eventually adopting therapy and other wellness practices to manage the grueling lifestyle. She is set to tour the UK and Europe in 2027.
