Carrier financing locks US iPhones to the provider until payoff
US iPhones bought with carrier financing from AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon are now locked to that carrier until the final payment is made, with unlocking only after payoff. Apple’s own financing options (Apple Card Monthly Installments and iPhone Payments) require activation on a carrier and may not lock the device. Some carrier text about unlocking appears inconsistent, and Boost Mobile carrier deals seem to have been removed, reducing pricing flexibility for buyers.
