Shelby Daytona Coupe CSX2300 Shatters Records at Monterey for $42.9 Million
A 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, chassis CSX2300, sold for $42,905,000 at Gooding Christie’s during Monterey Car Week, becoming the most expensive American car ever sold at auction. The sale nearly doubled the previous record of $22 million set by a 1935 Duesenberg SSJ in 2018. Only six of these aerodynamic race cars were ever built, and CSX2300 is the only one previously owned by Carroll Shelby. The car’s historic racing pedigree, including its role in the 1965 FIA GT Championship, drove intense bidding that exceeded pre-sale estimates.
