Minnesota arrests ICE agent linked to shooting during Metro Surge
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Christian Castro, 52, was arrested in Minnesota on state charges related to a Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis that occurred during Operation Metro Surge; prosecutors say Castro fired through a front door, injuring Sosa-Celis as six people, including children, were inside, and he faces felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor for falsely reporting a crime. Castro had intended to surrender but was arrested before arriving; he previously spent months in Texas awaiting extradition amid a dispute with Gov. Abbott over the request. He was also federally indicted on six counts of making false statements, the first DOJ prosecution of a federal officer connected to Metro Surge, and DHS has suspended him pending the case. He was due in state court and then federal court in mid-September.
