Emmys 2026: Hargitay to host as The Pitt and Hacks lead the pack
BBC’s live coverage of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles highlights Mariska Hargitay as the first woman to host in 15 years, with The Pitt leading nominations (25) and Hacks close behind (24). The ceremony introduces format changes by merging best talk series and best scripted variety into Outstanding Variety Series, moving some acting categories to Creative Arts, and reducing total trophies from 26 to 19 to allow more performances and moments. Red carpet starts around 15:00 local time (18:00 ET) ahead of the main show at 20:00 ET, as British nominations appear but the UK isn’t dominating as in some past years.
