Judge's Order Halts Event Blocking Entrance to Kansas Abortion Clinic
A planned demonstration by a Roman Catholic diocese in Kansas to block the entrance of a Wichita abortion clinic was canceled after a judge issued a temporary restraining order on the city permit. The Catholic Diocese of Wichita had obtained a permit to close the street in front of the Trust Women clinic for a "Mass for Life" demonstration, leaving open the entrance to another clinic that discourages abortions. The Trust Women clinic and a nearby business objected to the street closure, leading to the restraining order. Wichita has been a focal point for abortion rights conflicts, and the Trust Women clinic was founded by George Tiller, who was killed by an anti-abortion extremist in 2009.
