Michigan and five states face a surging cyclospora outbreak, with more than 5,000 cases and 102 hospitalizations in Michigan alone, while sweeping public-health funding cuts have weakened state/local capacity and CDC staffing, delayed surveillance and communications, and widened data gaps as FoodNet participation and Medicaid coverage changes complicate detection and response.
