Staten Island Man Survives Lightning Strike While Walking to Dentist
Thomas Fahmy, a staffer for Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, survived a lightning strike in Staten Island, New York, on August 27. Captured on a doorbell camera, the incident occurred as Fahmy walked to a dentist appointment during a thunderstorm. He reported severe pain and numbness but suffered no burns. He was hospitalized overnight for monitoring and discharged the next day. The CDC notes that while lightning strikes are rare, nearly 90% of victims survive.
