Apple Watch Fast-Charging Dock Delivers 10W for Series 12 and Ultra 4

Apple has introduced a new magnetic fast charger (model A3277) that can deliver up to 10W for faster charging on the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 when used with a USB-C Power Delivery charger rated 10W or higher. The updated charger is included with the new watches, and Apple is selling the puck separately for $29. A 15-minute charge adds about 12 hours of battery life to the Series 12 and 18 hours to the Ultra 4, while older models (Series 11, Ultra 3) don’t benefit from the faster speed.

Exposed charger pins nearly sparked a fire on Steam Controller

A Steam Controller owner reported that the puck’s exposed metal connectors touched a metal watch band, causing sparking and nearly starting a fire. Valve warns in the manual that magnetic parts can attract metal and cause sparks, and is arranging a replacement puck for affected units. The incident highlights the hazard posed by exposed charging pins and advises keeping the puck away from metal or magnetically sensitive objects.

Valve Steam Controller Puck Could Shock Metal Watch Straps

A Reddit post describes the exposed contacts on Valve’s Steam Controller Charging Puck remaining live and shorting with a Pixel Watch 4 wearing a third‑party strap, leaving scorch marks. Valve’s Steam Hardware team has reached out to offer a replacement puck and to inspect the charger and watch. No injuries occurred and neither device stopped working. Meanwhile, users are advised to keep the puck away from other chargers and handle it carefully while plugged in, with ongoing questions about whether the issue could have been caught before launch.
