OpenAI Retires ChatGPT Atlas as New Desktop App Expands Browsing Capabilities
OpenAI announced it is sunsetting ChatGPT Atlas, its standalone desktop browser, in favor of a new ChatGPT desktop app that includes robust built-in browsing and a ChatGPT Work agent alongside Codex. Atlas, which arrived on Mac previously, will be deprecated with a target date of August 9, 2026; the move also follows the addition of a Chrome desktop browser plugin to extend ChatGPT capabilities across browsers.
