Lost Surrealist Painting Found for $30 in Michigan to Sell for $250K in NYC
A painting by American surrealist Gertrude Abercrombie, purchased for $30 at a Michigan estate sale, is expected to fetch up to $250,000 at a New York auction. The work, 'Alderman Merriam's Shells' (1951), had been missing from public view for 75 years after being gifted to a doctor. It was authenticated by Susan Weininger and will be sold by Freeman's Auctions on October 1.
