Unitree’s humanoid-robot IPO rockets in Shanghai debut

Shares in Unitree Robotics surged about 600% on its Shanghai IPO debut, after pricing at RMB 150.8 per share and valuing the company around $9 billion; intraday gains peaked near 629% before settling about 578% higher as onshore retail demand overwhelmed supply. The listing made Unitree a rare pure‑play humanoid robotics stock in China, aided by strong brand recognition from festive robot performances and an oversubscribed retail tranche (over 5,500 times). Overseas revenue is a meaningful portion of earnings, and investors are pricing in steep growth amid China’s tech rally even as US restrictions on humanoid robots pose a backdrop.

Asian tech stocks surge following Alibaba's revamp plan and easing banking anxiety.

Chinese technology stocks, including Alibaba, Meituan, JD.com, and Tencent, led gains in Asia-Pacific after Alibaba announced a major revamp to split the tech giant into six entities. Analysts believe that the revamp will put the spotlight back on Ant Group's record-breaking IPO, which was unexpectedly suspended in November 2020. Alibaba owns 33% of Ant, which operates AliPay, one of China's two dominant mobile pay apps. The expected listing in Hong Kong will not happen anytime soon, but there's big hope for a sooner-than-later deal.
