Pope Leo XIV Confronts Trump’s Rhetoric in France, Championing European Unity and AI Ethics
Pope Leo XIV concluded a four-day visit to France by urging Europe to leverage its Christian roots to counter global conflict and 'uncivilized' trends. In Metz, he praised the European Union and multilateralism, implicitly challenging President Trump’s recent criticisms of European democracy. The pontiff also addressed artificial intelligence, warning against unchecked development while dismissing panic, and confronted the Catholic Church’s sexual abuse crisis by meeting survivors in Lourdes. The visit highlighted Leo’s role as a diplomatic counterweight to the U.S. administration, focusing on youth engagement, ethical AI, and international cooperation.
