The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has refused to charge a 33-year-old woman arrested by police in connection with a shooting on Cherokee Street during the Cinco de Mayo festival, citing a lack of evidence and a victim refusing to assist. The shooting left a man and woman wounded, and two men were killed in a separate shooting the night before.
Two assistant prosecutors have resigned from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office after being summoned for contempt of court hearings, along with their boss, Kim Gardner. This is the second assistant prosecutor to resign in recent weeks. The resignations come after both prosecutors no-showed court dates for separate cases. One of the prosecutors cited a toxic work environment, an unbearable workload, and a lack of support as reasons for resigning. It is unclear how many assistant prosecutors remain at the office.
