Emmer demands Omar's deportation if citizenship fraud is proven, as legal experts warn of constitutional hurdles
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer called for Rep. Ilhan Omar to be jailed and deported if a federal probe proves she or her father lied about her birth year to gain U.S. citizenship. The investigation, which includes a recent raid on her Washington, D.C., home, centers on whether she was 17 or 18 when her father naturalized in 2000. While Republicans argue the judicially authorized warrant proves probable cause, Democrats and legal experts frame the probe as political persecution ahead of the November 3 elections, noting a 2019 review found no fraud.
