Chicago's 'Rat Hole' Makes Rare Public Appearance at Smashing Pumpkins Concert
The City of Chicago temporarily loaned its famous 'Rat Hole' concrete slab to the United Center for a Smashing Pumpkins concert on October 14, 2026. The display coincided with the band's 'Rats in a Cage' tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1995 album 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.' The slab, which has been preserved at City Hall since 2025, was displayed in the Center Atrium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for fans to photograph. City officials described the arrangement as a perfect thematic match, while the concert featured a 150-minute setlist including deep cuts and recent tracks.
