Claude Fable 5 is now broadly available to all users, but with heavy usage caps and a transition to pay-per-use after July 7; users report a noticeable drop in performance as stricter safety guardrails push many tasks to Opus 4.8, a behavior Anthropic attributes to a larger safety margin and says it will address in a future update.
