Oxfam Report: Top 0.1% Emit More Carbon Than Half of Humanity
Oxfam’s new analysis, released ahead of the COP31 summit in Türkiye, asserts that the world’s richest 0.1% generates more carbon pollution than nearly half the global population. The report highlights that this elite group, comprising 8 million people, produces over three times the carbon pollution of Sub-Saharan Africa. It argues that the ultra-rich not only drive climate change but also profit from disaster recovery, creating a 'Destroy and Rebuild' cycle. Oxfam urges governments to tax wealth and fossil fuels to fund climate adaptation in the Global South.
